NEW DELHI — In the wake of rising mob lynching by Hindutva activists and so-called cow vigilantes in various states in India in the name of cow slaughter or cow smuggling, Home Minister Rajnath Singh has talked of taking the incidents of lynching “very seriously” and said the government might bring a law, if necessary, to stop it.
“I want to make it clear that the government is not just concerned but has taken lynching incidents very seriously,” Rajnath Singh told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday after opposition members raised the issue days after a cattle farmer was killed allegedly by cow vigilantes in Rajasthan’s Alwar.
Meanwhile, two Hindutva leaders made to headlines recently while presenting ‘solution’ to frequent mob lynching in cow related issues. Their statements are clear that they and all the subscribers of their mentality are responsible for mob lynching, taking the innocent lives of poor Muslim farmers.
Amid the outrage over killing of a Muslim man in Rajasthan’s Alwar, T Raja Singh Lodh, the BJP MLA from Goshamahal in Hyderabad said the incidents of mob violence will not stop till the time cow gets the status of Rashtra Mata.
In a video message on Sunday Raja Singh said that he does not want khoon-kharaba (bloodshed) on the issue, but if it has to stop, cow must be declared the Mother of the Nation.
In the 7-minute clip, the legislator also urged lawmakers to make such a demand in Parliament.
“Till cow is not accorded the status of Rashtra Mata, I feel the war for gau raksha (cow protection) will not stop even if ‘gau rakshaks’ (cow protectors) are put into jails or bullets are fired at them,” he said.
He also sought Prime Mininister Narendra Modi’s support for the demand.
The Ghoshamahal MLA is notorious to be on the wrong side of the law because of his remarks. He recently said the holy Quran was responsible for the spread of terrorism and those hosting Iftaar parties were begging for Muslim votes.
Another Rashtriya Swamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader hit headlines on Monday by blaming cow slaughters and beef eaters for mob lynching across the country.
RSS leader Indresh Kumar said mob lynching could stop if people stopped eating beef.
In a Sangh meet in Jharkhand Indresh Kumar said, “Lynching will stop if people will stop eating beef. The cow must be protected and cow dung should be used as the cement, it will stop both poverty and violence.”
The above bold statements of Hindutva leaders proves the point that to stop any mob lynching only political will on the part of government is required, not any new stringent law. And they have clearly admitted it that these lynchings are going hand in gloves with the Hindutva psyche of the Indian government.
