NEW DELHI — The All India Agricultural Workers Union (AIAWU) on Wednesday strongly condemned the Enforcement Directorate’s action against former Kerala Chief Minister and Leader of the Opposition, Pinarayi Vijayan, describing it as a politically motivated move aimed at silencing opposition voices.
In a statement, the organisation alleged that since the BJP came to power at the Centre in 2014, constitutional institutions and investigative agencies have increasingly been reduced to “political tools” to intimidate critics and target ideological opponents.
Calling Pinarayi Vijayan “a symbol of resistance against the BJP-RSS and crony capitalism,” the AIAWU said he represents an alternative model of governance rooted in welfare, secularism, and social justice.
The organisation highlighted the achievements of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government under Vijayan’s leadership between 2016 and 2026, claiming that Kerala witnessed significant progress in public welfare, education, healthcare, and poverty alleviation during this period. It added that the state emerged as a national leader in literacy, healthcare infrastructure, life expectancy, and social development indicators.
According to the statement, the LDF government’s policies helped transform Kerala into a model of people-centric governance despite financial constraints and mounting debt.
“Pinarayi Vijayan today symbolises the Left alternative to the BJP government’s pro-corporate and anti-people policies,” the statement said. “He represents peace, secularism, and social harmony, in contrast to the politics of communal polarisation and hatred propagated by the RSS.”
The agri workers’ body further alleged that the ED’s action was aimed not just at an individual leader but at undermining the political alternative represented by the Left movement in the country.
“This attack is directed against everyone who aspires for a more democratic, just, and equitable society,” the statement added.
The organisation appealed to democratic forces, agricultural labourers, and rural workers across the country to unite in protest against what it termed the “misuse of central agencies for political vendetta” and to stand in solidarity with Pinarayi Vijayan.
The statement was jointly issued by AIAWU President A. Vijayaraghavan and General Secretary B. Venkat.
