After the Rajasthan Police detained eight accused in connection with the case in Pratapgarh district, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that the culprits will be punished in the fast track court.
JAIPUR — A woman was paraded naked in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district. The incident came to light after a purported video of the incident went viral on social media.
The incident took place at Nichalkota village of the district.
Both the victim and the accused belong to a tribal community, officials said on Friday, adding that the victim’s former father-in-law and his family members are the accused in the case.
“As soon as the information was received, the Superintendent of Police (SP) along with the Deputy SP and other police officer immediately reached the spot,” they said.
SP Amit Kumar said that FIR has been registered and six teams have been formed to detain the accused.
Taking cognizance of the incident, the state government instructed Director General of Police (DGP) Umesh Mishra, ADG Crime Dinesh M.N. to visit Pratapgarh and take swift action in the case.
The DGP has asked the police to immediately arrest the accused.
Reacting over the incident, Deputy Leader of Opposition Satish Poonia said: “Soul trembles after watching the video of misbehaviour with a tribal woman in Pratapgarh. The morale of the criminals is so high that they are openly making videos of the crime.”
Poonia urged the state government to punish the culprits “so harshly that even the thought of committing such crimes trigger fear in the minds of the criminals”.
NCW seeks comprehensive report in 5 days
The National Commission for Women (NCW) on Saturday condemned the ‘harrowing incident’ of Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh in which a woman was paraded naked.
In a tweet, the NCW said, “NCW vehemently condemns the harrowing incident in Pratapgarh, Rajasthan. A woman was molested, stripped, and recorded on video. Despite it happening two days ago, police inaction is unacceptable. Rekha Sharma has instructed the state’s DGP to promptly arrest the culprits and invoke necessary IPC provisions. We demand a comprehensive report within 5 days.”

Culprits to be tried in fast track court: Gehlot
After the Rajasthan Police detained eight accused in connection with the case in which a woman was paraded naked in Pratapgarh district, Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said that the culprits will be punished in the fast track court.
“There is no place for such criminals in a civilized society. These criminals will be put behind the bars as soon as possible and will be tried and punished in the fast track court,” said the CM.
Gehlot in his tweet said, “In Pratapgarh district, a video of a woman being stripped naked by the in-laws has surfaced in a family dispute between parents and in-laws.”
“The Director General of Police has been instructed to send ADG Crime to the spot and take strictest action in this matter.
There is no place for such criminals in a civilized society. These criminals will be put behind the bars as soon as possible and will be tried and punished in the fast track court,” said Gehlot.
Meanwhile, DGP Umesh Mishra said that 10 persons have been named in the case of misbehavior with a woman in Pratapgarh.
Of these, eight have been detained which include the main accused. The woman has lodged a complaint against her husband Kanha Gameti along with Suraj, Veniya, Netiya, Nathu and Mahendra for taking her on a motorcycle and taking her out of her husband’s house naked, said Mishra.
Main accused husband Kanha Netian, Beniya and Pintu and a child molester have been detained along with bystanders Punia, Khetiya, Motilal and others, added the DGP. — IANS
