MORADABAD – A 29-year-old Muslim man was beaten to death by cow vigilantes over suspicion of cow slaughter in the Majhola police station area in Uttar Pradesh’s Moradabad district on Monday.
The deceased Shahe Din, a resident of Aslahatpur, was also booked by the police in a case related to cow slaughter.
A 54-minute video of the incident shows a mob using batons and rods to thrash the victim and later kicking him as he lies almost lifeless on the ground. For a brief period, the man is shown stirring and regaining consciousness but the attackers are goaded by the assembled crowd with the chants of “hit him, hit him” accusing him of slaughtering cows.

Talking to reporters, Moradabad Divisional Commissioner Aunjaneya Kumar Singh said the law-and-order situation in the district was under control and necessary police deployment had been made to ensure there was no further trouble. Singh said a first information report (FIR) under Section 103 (1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) has been registered against unidentified persons at Majhola police station on Tuesday on a complaint from Guddu, a brother of the deceased.
To add to the family’s woes, an FIR has also been filed against Shahe Din and three others under various sections related to cow slaughter.
According to the police, a mob caught Shahe Din at Mandi Samiti premises and thrashed him with batons and rods over the cow slaughter allegations. Three other persons managed to escape the wrath of the mob.
Singh said Shahe Din was admitted to Moradabad District Hospital for treatment where he died late on Monday night. The police officer said the body of the deceased was sent for autopsy and his family buried him on Tuesday morning.
SP City Kumar Ranvijay Singh said the deceased had no criminal history. “We have not found any criminal history of the deceased. We are further investigating the matter,” he said.
Shaukat Ali, state president of All India Majlis Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), accused the Moradabad police of attempting to protect the culprits as no arrest has been made so far.
“In Moradabad, people associated with a Hindu organisation killed a Muslim by calling him a cow smuggler, in which no arrest has been made so far @moradabadpolice Efforts are being made to save the murderers. Have the cow protectors given the freedom to kill?” asked Ali on X.
