NEW DELHI — In the wake of continued “misinformation” campaign spearheaded by a section of media against the organization by quoting official sources, the Popular Front of India (PFI) on Friday sought a fair treatment and withdrawal of the alleged moves to restrict its activities.
The front sent a memorandum to the Union Home Ministry and the concerned authorities. It also sought an appointment with the concerned authorities.
PFI chairman E Abubacker submitted a memorandum to the Home Ministry, National Security Adviser and the National Investigation Agency seeking an objective and fair treatment on the part of the concerned authorities and withdrawal of the alleged moves to restrict the activities of the organization. The chairman expressed concern over the “witch-hunt” of the organization and said that some forces are “working to create an atmosphere of fear and suspicion against us with the intention of forcing the government to restrict the activities”.
The memorandum also denied all the charges levelled against the organization in the alleged NIA dossier, reportedly submitted to the MHA. Abubacker described the media reports as part of the “smear campaign to tarnish the image of the Popular Front of India among the common public”.
It was also pointed out in the memorandum that the popular front is a nationwide movement, with tens of thousands of active members and lakhs of supporters across the country, contributing to nation building by empowering the poor and the deprived and promoting services like health awareness and education.
It requested the MHA to “look into such matters and direct investigation and intelligence agencies to act objectively, and ensure that justice is done”. The organization has also sought opportunities to directly interact with these authorities to give clarifications with regard to the reported allegations.
