NEW DELHI – In a remarkable testament to the indomitable spirit of women breaking barriers, Naheed Jamal, a resident of Kot Gharbi locality in the Uttar Pradesh city of Sambhal, has become an inspiration by embracing an unexpected career path.
Although she dreamt of becoming a professor, financial constraints led her to take up the role of a conductor in Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses.
Naheed did her post-graduation in Urdu from the city’s MGM College. She embarked on her academic journey with aspirations of earning a Ph.D. and becoming a professor. However, fate had different plans for her. Her father’s death in 2016 thrust the responsibilities of the household onto Naheed’s shoulders.
Hailing from a family with a history of service in UPSRTC, where her grandfather and father were employed, Naheed decided to be a conductor to support her mother Mehrunnisa and her five siblings – Anas, Maki, Nawab, Faizan, and Najmi.
Despite facing adversity, Naheed stood resilient, juggling the duties of a conductor while caring for her family. Unmarried and committed to her familial responsibilities, Naheed Jamal has become a source of inspiration for other girls facing similar challenges.
Currently serving at the Brass City Depot, Naheed expressed gratitude towards the officers and staff who supported her. Reflecting on her initial hesitation when she first assumed the role after a 20-day training, she acknowledged the crucial role played by the training and the unwavering support from her colleagues in her success today.
In a message to women and girls, Naheed encourages self-reliance, determination, and honesty in pursuing goals. She urges girls, regardless of their educational background, to set objectives and tackle challenges with responsibility, emphasising that success is inevitable.
Addressing Muslim girls specifically, Naheed points out the societal challenges they face. She advises them to overcome anxiety, make independent decisions, and value the guidance of parents and elders.
Naheed believes that times have changed, and with honesty and determination, Muslim girls can move forward and succeed in facing the challenges of education and competition. Her story serves as a compelling reminder that resilience, determination, and hard work can pave the way for success in any field.
