NEW DELHI — Reacting to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘sermon’ on mob-lynching, All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) on Monday said he must stop “hypocrisy and act” now against the self-styled Gaurakshaks who have been patronized by the Sangh Parivar.

Describing the PM’s statements as ‘empty hypocritical rhetoric’ on the issue, AIKS said the prime minister has maintained complete silence for long since cow vigilantes unleashed a terror on innocent Muslims in the name of beef.

In a statement, Kisan Sabha’s president Amra Ram and general secretary and former MP  Hannan Mollah said the PM is running with the hare and hunting with the hounds as close links between the gaurakshaks with the BJP and Sangh Parivar has also been exposed from time to time.

No action has been taken against the perpetrators of the crime so far while efforts are being made to harass the victims of such attacks by filing cases against them on the false charges. The culprits in the killing of Pehlu Khan named in the FIR are yet to be arrested and so are the culprits in other cases of lynching. A case of cow theft has been charged against the slain victim and no compensation provided to the victim’s family, said Kisan Sabha officials.

Meanwhile, there are reports that the BJP Government of Haryana is planning to provide identity cards to “Real” Gaurakshaks to provide legal cover for barbaric goons.

“The Prime Minister is clearly running with the hare and hunting with the hounds to deflect criticism in Parliament. AIKS calls upon him to stop the hypocrisy and take action on barbaric cow vigilante groups as well as provide compensation to the victims of their attacks”.

They also took the prime minister to task for spreading ‘unscientific temper” as he claimed that “cow is treated like a mother”. Reminding that the “PM is constitutionally bound to promote scientific temper”, they said he should desist from making such statements.

“The setting up of a Committee for Scientific Validation and Research on Panchagavya with wide terms of reference, filling it with people with RSS-VHP links and seeking to involve Government departments, IIT Delhi and Research institutes is clearly aimed at providing gainful employment to their cadre and imposing their views upon citizens. It is aimed at getting a cloak of scientific sanction for obscurantist ideas. There are already institutions of national repute which are carrying out research on Indian breeds and also on manure which is however starved of funds,” they added.

The effort to communalize the society and to promote corporate interests by bringing a Notification restricting cattle trade is a deliberate policy of the BJP government. Despite the stay from the Supreme Court on the implementation of the Notification the Government is planning to keep the issue live.

AIKS calls upon all political entities and social organizations to expose the hypocrisy of the Prime Minister and the BJP Government on this matter.

They also urged Parliamentarians to raise the issue of Committee for Scientific Validation and Research on Panchagavya in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament and seek the scrapping of such a decision.
