DAMOH – An alleged incident of cow slaughter sparked massive protests in Madhya Pradesh’s Damoh district on Friday. The incident in the Sita Bauli area pitted a group of butchers against members of a Hindutva outfit. Media reports claim that firearms were freely used in the brawl.

According to reports, cow slaughter took place inside a house and members of the Hindutva organisation received word about the illegal act. They rushed to the location in an attempt to stop the slaughter. However, upon their arrival, they were reportedly met with gunfire from the butchers.

“We were just trying to stop the slaughter when they opened fire on us. It was a violent and unprovoked attack,” one of the members of the Hindu group stated.

Police were called in and they discovered a half-slaughtered cow inside the house. Further examination revealed that the cow was carrying a four-month-old calf. The police have taken the three accused into custody, and they are now being questioned.

The Additional Superintendent of Police, Sandeep Mishra, confirmed the incident. “The police reached the spot immediately after receiving the news of cow slaughter and the firing. The three accused were apprehended and are currently under questioning,” Mishra said.

In response to the incident, a large group of Hindus gathered at the site and demanded action. The situation quickly escalated, and the organisation declared a city-wide bandh in protest of the cow slaughter. With tensions running high, local authorities deployed a heavy police presence in the area to maintain order.

As part of their response, the local administration acted swiftly, demolishing the house where the cow slaughter had occurred. Bulldozers were brought in to tear down the structure.

“The building where the cow slaughter occurred is being demolished, and further legal actions are being taken against those responsible,” said the Chief Municipal Officer (CMO) of Damoh.
