NEW DELHI – In a remarkable display of honesty, a Muslim farmer from Rajgarh in Madhya Pradesh has set an inspiring example during the holy month of Ramadan. Liaquat, the son of Nasrullah Khan from the village of Kotri Kala, returned ₹25,850 to a grain trader after discovering he had been overpaid for his wheat crop.

Liaquat had sold 24 quintals and 60 kg of wheat at the Krishi Upaj Mandi in Kurawar where his produce was purchased by Rakesh Maheshwari, a grain trader at Shri Dev Traders. The sale, which went through an online purchase procedure, was conducted smoothly, and Liaquat received payment after his produce was weighed. However, the incident took a surprising turn when he realised that he had received more money than he was owed.

“It was after I returned home and offered namaz (prayers) that I realised the mistake,” said Liaquat, who had been paid for more than 10 quintals of wheat, far exceeding the actual sale amount. Disturbed by the error, Liaquat found it impossible to sleep that night. The fact that he had received more than his fair share, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan, left him troubled.

“I couldn’t rest knowing that I had received more than I was due,” Liaquat explained. “Ramadan teaches us to be honest and to live a life of integrity. I had to correct this mistake.”

Early the next morning, Liaquat set out to return the extra money. He went straight to Rakesh Maheshwari’s shop to explain the situation. At first, Maheshwari was unaware of the overpayment, but upon hearing the farmer’s story, he was moved by the honesty displayed. Liaquat returned the ₹25,850 that he had been mistakenly given.

“I was completely taken aback when Liaquat Bhai returned the money,” said Maheshwari. “It’s rare to find such honesty in today’s world, especially in a time when people are often driven by self-interest. His actions have truly humbled me.”

In recognition of Liaquat’s honesty, Maheshwari presented him with a small gift as a token of appreciation.

“His honesty has not only impressed me, but it has also reminded me of the true values of Ramadan — integrity, fairness, and selflessness,” Maheshwari added.

Liaquat’s actions have drawn admiration among the locals, especially in a time when the values of honesty and integrity seem to be tested daily. His commitment to returning the overpaid sum serves as a shining example of the moral standards that many aspire to follow.

As Muslims across the world continue to observe the fasts of Ramadan, Liaquat’s story has become a source of inspiration, demonstrating how the teachings of Islam can guide individuals towards righteous acts, regardless of the circumstances.

“I feel blessed to have been able to do the right thing,” Liaquat said humbly. “Ramadan is about more than just fasting; it’s about purifying the soul and living with honesty.”

In a world where many are quick to accept even small gains when opportunities arise, Liaquat’s integrity serves as a poignant reminder that the path of honesty is not only right but also fulfilling.
