LUCKNOW — While the debate is going on on the new found love of Yogi Adityanath’s UP government for the Dalit icon and father of the Indian Constitution Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar, a statue of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar was decapitated and vandalised in Allahabad on Saturday, police said.
The statue with its head chopped off was found by locals at an Ambedkar park in Trivenipuram area of Jhunsi, reports IANS.
“We are aware of the matter and are trying to locate the suspects,” Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Allahabad Aakash Kulhari said.

Police has registered a case and ruled out any tension in the area following the incident.
A similar incident was also reported from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on March 7.
The Uttar Pradesh government has recently passed an order to add the word ‘Ramji” as the middle name of Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar and full name to be used in all official references to the Dalit icon from now on. The decision of the Yogi government, however, did not go well with the opposition and Dalit stalwarts.
Several social activists and Dalit intellectuals slammed the UP government and its order to use full name of Dalit icon terming it as an “electoral gimmick and part of “Hindutva politics” being played by the BJP to gain political mileage ahead of Assembly elections across India and the 2019 General elections.
