NEW DELHI – Ahead of the Eid al-Adha, Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind on Tuesday demanded that Muslims should be allowed to offer Eid al-Adha (Bakrid) prayers at Eidgah and mosques with necessary precautionary guidelines and lifting the bar from mosques in UP that only five faithful can offer Namaz (prayer) at a time.

Jamiat also demanded that the important chapters removed from the CBSE syllabus should be brought back and put a stop on the spree of arresting anti-CAA activists immediately.

The meeting of the Jamiat’s Central Working Committee was held under the organization’s president Maulana Qari Mohammad Usman Mansoorpuri  at the Madani Manzil in Deoband, UP.  The meeting discussed and deliberated upon a wide range of issues including forthcoming Eid al-Adha and qurbani (sacrificing of animals) unrelenting persecution and harassment of anti-CAA activists, UP mosques issue and other issues confronting the nation.

During the meeting, in his remarks, Jamiat Ulema-i-Hind’s General Secretary Maulana Mahmood Madani said it is matter of grave concern that at a time when the entire country is in grip of the coronavirus pandemic, the Delhi police is on a spree to arrest the youths and activists who were in the forefront of anti-CAA agitation.   While presenting a detail report of Jamiat’s legal help extended to those arrested by the police, Maulana Madani said Jamiat’s working condemned in the strongest possible terms the Delhi Police’s continuous hounding of activists and urged the center to put a stop on these unlawful spree of arrests forthwith and release all those who have been arrested in this connection. It also demanded that the Center should withdraw sections of the draconian UAPA slapped on the arrested activists and it should give due compensation to those who lost lives in Police atrocities.
Reiterating its stand on the controversial and religiously discriminatory Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA), the Jamiat passed a resolution stating that it violates Article 14 and 21 of the Constitution.

Terming the amended citizenship law against the basic structure of the Indian Constitution, the resolution said the peace-loving particularly Muslim community’s concern on this piece of law is quite natural and they have been agitating against this law in a peaceful and democratic manner.  Jamiat Ulama appreciated the peaceful agitation of the anti-CAA protestors. However, the government and police had adopted unlawful means to crush this peaceful movement. In addition to the excessive use of force, the Police also slapped harsh Acts against the peaceful protestors which is a highly condemnable.

The meeting also discussed the issues related with the coming Eid al-Adha and qurbani. In a resolution, the Jamiat asked the government to clear hurdles in the way of observing Eid al Adha and allow the faithful to offer Eid Namaz at Eidgahs and Mosques. It also stated that sacrificing animals is imperative on sahib-e-nasab (those who can afford it) under all circumstances and there cannot be any alternative to this practice during the period.

The Jamiat also urgeed the people to take “precautionary” measures due to the pandemic in offering qurbani.  It asks them not to offer qurbani on roads, footpaths and pathways and ensure the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene and bury the blood and entrails of the animal after qurbani or deliver it at the designated spot of garbage collection.

The Jamiat expressed grave concern over the condition of allowing only five people at a time in offering namaz in mosques.  The resolution said after the un-lockdown was started, the government is  gradually allowing all the activities , however, in UP , the state government has put a condition on offering of Namaz in mosques as this decision has created heartburn in the community.  Jamiat demands this condition should be lifted and allow Muslims to offer five- time namaz as they would adhere to all the social distancing norms.

The meeting also strongly disapproves the decision, taken by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), of excluding crucial chapters from classes X-XII course on citizenship, nationalism, secularism, federalism and all other aspects fundamental to our constitutional order. Using the pretext of the current pandemic and lockdown restrictions, in the name of reducing the syllabus for students, the CBSE has unilaterally taken recourse to this measure.

Demanding the restoration of the excluded chapters, the resolution said that such selective exclusion undermines the constitutional values, adversely affecting secular democratic India’s future. It further said the CBSE has not been able to provide any rationale for excluding these chapters.
