NEW DELHI — Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has honoured Riyazuddin Mansouri, praising his extraordinary courage, compassion, and commitment to saving lives during a tragic hotel fire in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar that claimed 21 lives and left dozens injured.
On behalf of JIH Delhi, Mansouri was presented with a special award of ₹1 lakh in recognition of his exemplary humanitarian service.
A Jamaat delegation led by Mohammad Salimullah Khan, Ameer-e-Halqa, JIH Delhi, visited Malviya Nagar to assess the situation and express solidarity with those affected by the incident. The delegation inspected the site of the tragedy and met Mansouri.
When the fire broke out and several people were trapped inside the hotel, calling for help from windows and rooftops, Mansouri—who runs a mattress shop nearby—displayed remarkable presence of mind and bravery. He quickly spread mattresses from his shop across the road and, with the help of family members and associates, urged those trapped to jump onto them to escape the flames. His timely intervention is estimated to have saved 14–15 lives.
Speaking on the occasion, Khan said Mansouri demonstrated that in times of crisis, barriers of religion, caste, and community become irrelevant, and humanity and compassion define a person’s true identity. He added that at a time when forces of division threaten social harmony, individuals like Mansouri stand out as examples of India’s composite culture and shared human values.
Khan also noted that Mansouri did not hesitate despite the financial loss involved, laying out mattresses worth nearly ₹2 lakh and risking his own safety to save others. Such selflessness and dedication, he said, represent the highest ideals of public service and deserve wide recognition.
Members of the delegation described Mansouri’s actions as exemplary and inspiring, saying such individuals strengthen values of mutual trust, compassion, and social harmony. The award, they added, is not just a recognition of individual bravery but a tribute to the spirit of humanity.
The delegation expressed hope that Mansouri’s act would inspire future generations and promote compassion, brotherhood, and humanitarian values across society.
