AAP MLA Jarnail Singh said they would continue their protests till the prices of petrol and diesel are brought down.

NEW DELHI (IANS) — Around three dozen Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) members and councillors protesting against high petrol and diesel prices were detained by police outside Shastri Bhavan here on Tuesday afternoon.

The AAP had earlier announced that it will lay siege to the Petroleum Ministry, housed in Shastri Bhavan, as part of their week-long protest against high petrol and diesel prices across the country.

The protesters, comprising chiefly of AAP local body councillors, were detained by police and sent to the Parliament Street Police Station, a police officer told IANS.

The protesters resisted being removed and many, including women volunteers, were forcefully taken away by the police.

The protesters raised slogans like “Modi your dictatorship won’t work, won’t work”.

Earlier on September 20, a group of protesting AAP MLAs who wanted to meet the Petroleum Minister were detained by police near Shastri Bhavan.

AAP MLA Jarnail Singh who sat on protest outside Shastri Bhavan on Tuesday told IANS: “This is the second time that they’re refusing to even meet us. The common man doesn’t even need an appointment to meet the Delhi Chief Minister. We won’t allow this dictatorship.”

Singh said they would continue their protests till the prices are brought down.
