NEW DELHI – As the Lok Sabha elections near, political fervor is on the rise across the nation and a surge has been seen in meetings between political figures and religious leaders.

In the midst of this charged political atmosphere, Maulana Abul Qasim Naumani, the Nazim of Darul Uloom Deoband, has reiterated the institution’s unwavering commitment to non-partisanship, reports reaching here said on Wednesday.

Darul Uloom Deoband, an influential Islamic seminary situated in Deoband in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, holds considerable sway among Indian Muslims. Established in 1866 by Muhammad Qasim Nanautavi, Fazlur Rahman Usmani, Sayyid Muhammad Abid, and others, the seminary’s influence extends far and wide.

Maulana Naumani, in discussions with media representatives on Tuesday, emphatically stated that Darul Uloom Deoband will not extend any welcome to any political leader. The decision is in line with the institution’s longstanding policy of refraining from hosting political figures, he said.

Providing insight into the rationale behind this stance, Maulana Naumani cited a past incident where a local leader, accompanying a political figure, made a symbolic gesture towards an esteemed figure at the seminary. The subsequent misrepresentation of this incident solidified the institution’s resolve to abstain from engaging with political leaders on its premises.

Maulana Naumani’s announcement serves as a proactive measure, ensuring that the institution maintains its impartiality amidst the ever-changing political landscape.
