NEW DELHI – Twenty-four Muslim candidates across the country have either won or are leading in the Lok Sabha elections.
Out of these 24 candidates, ten are from the Congress, five from TMC, four from the Samajwadi Party, two each from the Indian Union Muslim League and Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and one from All India Muslim Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
Hafiz Rashid Choudhry (Karimganj Assam), Rakibul Hussain (Dhubri in Assam), Mohammed Jawed (Kishanganj, Bihar), Mansoor Ali Khan (Bengaluru Central, Karnataka), Shafi Parambil (Vadakara, Kerala), Hamdullah Sayeed (Lakshadweep), Imran Masood (Saharanpur, UP), Kunwar Danish Ali (Amroha, UP), Isha Khan (Maldaha Dakshin, West Bengal) and Tariq Anwar (Katihar, Bihar) are the ten Congress candidates who have either won the election or are ahead as the counting of votes continues.
In West Bengal, Kalilur Rahman (Jangipur), Abu Taher Khan (Murshidabad), Pathan Yusuf (Baharampur), Sajda Ahmed (Uluberia), and S.K. Nurul Islam (Baisrat) are the five candidates from the TMC who are leading or have won at the hustings.
E.T. Mohammed Basheer (Malappuram) and K. Navaskani (Ramanathapuram) are the leading candidates from the Indian Union Muslim League.
Altaf Ahmad (Anantanag-Rajouri) and Ruhullah Mehdi (Srinagar) are the leading candidates from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference.
In Uttar Pradesh, Iqra Choudhry (Kairana), Mohibullahah (Rampur), Ziaur Rehman Burq (Sambhal), and Afzal Ansari (Ghazipur) from the Samajwadi Party have registered their victories.
AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi has won from Hyderabad.
According to The Hindu, there were 68 Muslim candidates fielded by prominent parties in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Congress, IUML, AIMIM, AITC, YSRCP, TDP, CPI, CPM, CPI(ML)(L), CPI(M), BJD, RJD, JD(U), LJP, AAP, JD(S), JMM, AIUDF, NCP, Shiv Sena, Shiv Sena (UBT), BRS, Jammu and Kashmir Nationalist Peoples Front, Jammu & Kashmir National Conference and the BJP are the parties which fielded Muslim candidates.
In West Bengal, 18 Muslim candidates were fielded by various parties. Of them, six are leading/have won in the 2024 polls. Of the nine Muslim candidates from Bihar, two are leading/have won. Of the seven Muslim candidates in Kerala, two are leading/have won. And of the six Muslim candidates in Jammu and Kashmir UT, two are leading/have won.
