RAZIQUEH HUSSAIN’S ONLINE FEATURE ‘DUBAI CATCHES ‘EM YOUNG’ WINS THE ACCOLADE

Staff Report

DUBAI, Feb 2Clarion India, the young online news magazine, received its first accolade on Sunday when it clinched the Dubai Shopping Festival Journalism Award in online media category.  Caravan (www.clarionindia.net) received the DSF 2014 Award for the Best Online Feature by Raziqueh Hussain. The DSF Journalism and Photography Awards were given away at a glittering ceremony marking the closure of the celebrated Shopping Festival on Sunday by Shaikh Majid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of Dubai Culture and Arts Authority at a gala closing ceremony on Sunday.

Published on January 2, 2014, the feature titled Dubai Catches ‘Em Young https://clarionindia.net/portal/dubai-catches-em-young/ by Raziqueh Hussain, the Indian journalist who is now based in Norway, talked about how the Dubai Shopping Festival reached out to children and young people.

“The Dubai Shopping Festival functions with the overall theme of ‘One World. One Family. One Festival,’ and offers every member of every family the best shopping and entertainment feel available in the region. More than 3,500 retail shops and 40 state of the art shopping malls offer huge discounts on international brands. With so much to see and do, it’s no surprise that attendance is in the 3.5 million range,” wrote Hussain.

“Locals love children and Dubai has long been attracting expat families, so the young are well catered for – many hotel crèches and clubs are used by non-guests. If your kid is a water baby, you might consider a day at a water park.”

The Indian journalist expressed her delight at winning the coveted DSF Award once again. This is her third DSF Award.

The 19th edition of DSF, themed “Shop at Your Best” started on January 2 and concluded on February 2.

The closing ceremony was attended by Helal Saeed Almarri, Director-General, DTCM and Laila Mohammed Suhail, CEO of DFRE among other guests.

Almarri said: “The 19th edition welcomed tens of thousands of families and tourists, further consolidating Dubai’s reputation as a destination of choice and demonstrating the position of its retail and entertainment sectors as key visitor drivers.”

In her speech, Laila said: “As we conclude today the 19th edition of DSF we would like to pause for a moment and reflect on the successful 19 years journey that we had together, making DSF the longest running festival of its kind in the world.”

The 20th edition of DSF will be held from January 1 to February 1, 2015.
