LUCKNOW — A BJP programme here turned sour as a woman levelled serious corruption charges against the state government led by Yogi Adityanath.

Sharda Devi’s allegations at the ‘Vikas Bharat Sankalp Yatra,’ the flagship housing programme of the BJP governments in the state and at the Centre cast a shadow on the claims of corruption-free governance by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Adityanath.

During the recent ‘Vikas Bharat Sankalp Yatra,’ BJP MP Dharmendra Kashyap was seen handing over house keys to Sharda Devi under the ‘PM Awas Yojana.’ In a video that has gone viral on social media, the BJP MP asked Sharda Devi if anyone took money (bribe) from her. To everyone’s surprise, she responded on the microphone, admitting, “Yes, 30,000 rupees have been taken.”

Sharda Devi, a resident of Asawan Nagar Panchayat, was one of the beneficiaries receiving a house key from the BJP MP. The revelation of corruption has caused a stir within the BJP.

Expressing concern over the matter, BJP district president Rajeev Gupta stated, “While taking over the keys from the MP, the elderly lady talked about money, so it is a very serious matter for us.”

Kashyap also acknowledged the seriousness of the issue and termed it as a disgrace for the BJP government.

In response to the corruption allegations, the local BJP leadership has taken swift action. Gupta stated that the matter has been immediately reported to the district magistrate, and a thorough investigation has been requested.

District Magistrate Badayan Manoj Kumar confirmed the initiation of an inquiry, saying, “This matter has come to my notice, and I have referred the matter to Additional District Magistrate Administration VK Singh. The investigation report has been asked to be submitted as soon as possible.”

The incident raises questions over the efficacy of the ‘PM Awas Yojana’ and challenges the narrative of a corruption-free administration in Uttar Pradesh, prompting authorities to address the issue promptly and transparently.
