AMROHA — A school mortgagee in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha has allegedly threatened to convert to Islam, citing harassment over the return of his building. The situation escalated when Ashok Paisal posted a photo of himself wearing a Muslim cap on social media, prompting swift reactions from Hindu organisations and district authorities.

Paisal, the mortgagee of Saraswati Vidya Mandir in the Said Nagli Nagar Panchayat, alleged that despite paying a bribe, officials have failed to return his property. “I have been struggling to get my building back even after giving money. If my concerns are not addressed, I will have no option but to change my religion,” he reportedly stated on social media. His post quickly gained attention, triggering responses from both the administration and local Hindu organisations.

Following the outcry, district authorities intervened, reportedly assuring Paisal that his concerns would be resolved and all that is due to him would be returned. Subsequently, he withdrew his statement.

It is alleged that Executive Officer Salil Bharaj had facilitated a transaction where ₹1.5 lakh was taken from Paisal and given to a contractor, Shyam Gupta. “The money was extorted under the pretext of official procedures,” a source claimed. Following Paisal’s complaint and the ensuing public attention, officials ensured the return of the money.

Despite this, the controversy deepened when Paisal’s act of donning a Muslim cap and making allegations against the administration created a stir. Authorities are now reportedly investigating the matter to determine whether any misconduct took place.

Local leaders have urged calm, emphasising that such incidents should be handled with transparency and justice. A senior official stated, “We are looking into the allegations and will take necessary action to ensure fairness in the matter.”
