LONDON –  In second armed robbery of its kind, a seven member gang attacked a UAE citizen and his wife last night in their apartment in London but they are unharmed, UAE Ambassador to the UK, Abdul Rehman Ganem Al Mutaiwe’e, has said.

The masked robbers, who carried hammers, knives and guns, broke the door and entered the apartment, threatened the family and stole their money, jewellery and credit cards, Al Mutaiwe’e said.

He added that the UAE citizen managed to remove the mask of one of the attackers who then ordered his accomplice to shoot the former because he identity had been revealed. However, they fled the scene after hearing the sirens of a car near the building block fearing that the police were coming.

He added that the neighbours had alerted the Police who immediately launched an investigation and found some of the stolen items.

The ambassador said that as soon as he received a call from the Emirati man early morning he had rushed there to ensure their well being and reassured the family that the embassy had received instructions from UAE Foreign Minister Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to follow up the case.

He emphasised that the family is fine and they were taken to an apartment owned by Dubai Office in London.

”The British Police are still investigating the incident,” Al Mutaiwe’e said. —WAM
