NEW DELHI – While speaking on the floor of Parliament about Delhi pogrom, Home Minister Amit Shah has claimed that the violence in northeast Delhi continued till 11pm on February 25, contradicting the reports of violence till night on February 26.
“I would like to place on record that after the 25th February, no incident of rioting took place,” claimed Shah in Parliament. This shocked those who witnessed the violence on the 26th. One of the eyewitnesses is former civil servant Shashikant Senthil. He said the violence was more severe on 26 February.
Senthil tweeted: “The audacity of the home minister to lie has no parallel. We were present on the 26th night at the call center run by Harsh Mander and some committed youngsters. The riots were more severe on the 26th. The horror faced by the youngsters manning the call center still haunts me.”
He said the attack was continued till the 27 February and yet Shah blatantly lied about the violence. “The attacks though sporadic continued even on the 27th. I can’t believe how Amit Shah can tell a lie that there was no incident after the 25th. God save this country,” he said.

Swaraj Abhiyan leader Yogendra Yadav also confirmed what Senthil said about the violence on the 26th February. “Yes, I can confirm that. SOS calls kept coming to the rescue teams through the night of 25th and during the 26th,” said Yadav.

NDTV journalist Saurabh Shulka fact-checked Shah’s claim about the violence on the 26th. The Delhi Police said 13 people killed on the 26th and the home minister said the rioting did not happen on the 26th. Either Shah was misinformed by the Delhi Police or he is not telling truth, he said.
He also shared the video clip from a resident whose son was killed on the 26th February night. “According to Amit Shah, riots were controlled by Delhi Police on the 25th night but listen to a father whose two sons Amir & Hashim were brutally murdered and their bodies dumped in the drain by rioters on Wednesday night (the 26th). The bodies were recovered on the 27th …. Just stating facts,” he tweeted with a video clip.
