Spanish Minister Calls on European States to Take Action against Genocide in Palestine

“Let’s take action, it is still possible to stop the genocide,” Ione Belarra said.

MADRID — Spanish Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, has called on European states to sever diplomatic relations with Israel, impose an arms embargo and economic sanctions and “stop the genocide in Palestine.”

In a video posted on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, the minister outlined four different ways European states can help put an end to the bombing of Gaza.

In her video, she says: “First suspend diplomatic relations with the state of Israel, implement strong sanctions as was done with (Russian President Vladimir) Putin, impose an arms embargo, and as was also done in the case of the war in Ukraine, bring (Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin) Netanyahu and all the political leaders responsible for carrying out bombings against the civilian population before the International Criminal Court.”

“Let’s take action, it is still possible to stop the genocide,” she added.

In a previous statement, Belarra confirmed that “Israel has left hundreds of thousands of people without electricity, food, or water, and is bombing civilians, which constitutes collective punishment, serious violation of international humanitarian law and can be considered a war crime.”

She also accused the EU and US of encouraging Israel to practice a policy of discrimination, racism and aggression that seriously violates human rights.

The Israeli occupation army continues to target the Gaza Strip with intense air strikes that destroyed entire neighbourhoods and left thousands of Palestinian civilians martyred and wounded. — Agencies
