NEW DELHI — The Popular Front of India gave a clarion call to the people of the country to come out against the trend of bulldozer politics. Recounting how the Uttar Pradesh Government adopted extrajudicial methods to target its opponents and crush dissent, it said they have set a precedent that is against the Constitution and the rule of law.

In a resolution passed at its national leaders’ meeting at Puthanathani in Malappuram, the Popular Front noted how in the BJP-ruled states mere an accusation becomes conviction with the police acting as judge, jury and executioner all in one. This, it said is unheard of in a civilised world. Police are given free rein to shoot people and destroy their homes.

The party expressed deep concern over the fact that there is little resistance to gross human rights abuses where due process of law is trampled upon with immunity. It said, “The fascist government of UP is brutally suppressing legitimate and democratic protests by demonising members of the Muslim community. Innocent Muslims are being booked under draconian laws and their houses are being demolished.”

The party expressed its anguish over the fact that even Supreme Court has failed to undo the injustice being meted out to the minority community by the Yogi government while refusing to put the action on hold. In a situation such as this, the party said silence is complicity. Hence, the resolution called upon all sections of the society to break their silence and unequivocally condemn the bulldozer politics and extrajudicial actions of the UP government.

In another resolution, the party called for an immediate end to the targeting of Muslim places of worship by the Sangh Parivar. After Babri Masjid, Sangh outfits have intensified their campaign against other historical mosques like Gyanvapi Masjid and Mathura Shahi Idgah, in their bid to keep the communal pot boiling by pushing their anti-Muslim narrative. This, the party said is leading the country into an irreversible communal divide at micro and macro levels and potentially creating an atmosphere of anti-Muslim genocide.

The Popular Front cautioned against hate politics which may yield temporary political gains, but will eventually bring ruin for all. The Front demanded that the administration refrained from entertaining any attempts by the Sangh Parivar to target Muslim places of worship in the country.

In yet another resolution, the party saw sinister motives behind the newly announced Agnipath army recruitment scheme. It said the project will only adversely affect the professionalism of the Indian Army and thereby undermine national security. It also validated the speculation that this is a Sangh Parivar project to give arms training to its para-military wings. It said the people of the country should stand up against the scheme.

The meeting held at Malabar House, Puthanathani on the 17th and 18th of June was attended by leaders of the organisation from all across the country.
