EMIRATE RECEIVED MORE THAN 167,000 RUSSIAN TOURISTS IN FIRST QUARTER OF 2014, UP 29 PERCENT

SHARJAH — Following the success of its European road show last week, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority is on its travels again, from June 2 to 6, 2014 Working with Air Arabia Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority has some clearly identified targets in Russia to develop.

Speaking about the latest roadshow, HE Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Director General, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority emphasised the importance of the Russian market, which has shown year on year consistent growth this year peaking at 29% growth in the first quarter.

Al Midfa said that the Authority is looking forward to organising even more high profile oversea roadshows in key tourism generating regions specifically targeting tourists with families and investors. Sharjah has a very strong message platform, with its new developments, and recent accolades alongside the number of world class events and activities hosted by Sharjah during the second half of the year, particularly during the long summer break such as Sharjah Summer Promotions, which includes shopping and entertainment events in shopping malls, will be highlighted besides the popular tourist destinations around the emirate.

The SCTDA Director General said he is pleased with Sharjah’s leading position as a tourist destination in the Russian market.  The Emirate remains a favorite international destination for Russian tourists because of its beautiful safe beaches along the Arabian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, as well as the year round sunshine.

Sharjah also benefits from a world-class tourism infrastructure, luxury resort hotels and tourist attractions, alongside this there are endless leisure, shopping and entertainment options he added.

The Sharjah delegation to Russia includes representatives from Air Arabia, Coral Beach Resort Sharjah, Centro Hotel and Rotana Hotel. The tour includes workshops and meetings with representatives of major travel and tourism companies and government agencies and private sector players in the tourism sector in the Russian capital, Moscow, and cities of Kazan, Yekaterinburg and Rostov.

The Russian roadshow will be the last overseas roadshow for the team before Ramadan, but the ambitious programme of roadshows will continue after Ramadan including India, and Kazakhstan among other locations.
