Sambhal Violence: Despite Ill-health SP MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq Appears Before SIT

SAMBHAL — Samajwadi Party MP Zia Ur Rehman Barq on TUesday reached Sambhal Police station as he was summoned by UP Special Investigation Team (SIT) for questioning him for his alleged involvement in the violence that broke out during the court-ordered survey of Sambhal’s Shahi Jama Masjid on Nov 24 last year.

Accompanied by over 10 lawyers, the Sambhal MP reached Nakhasa police station at about 11:30 am to get his statement recorded before the SIT, which is probing the case, reports PTI.

Befor leaving for the police station, Barq said despite not being in good health and doctors advising him to rest, he is ready to cooperate with the police to avoid a “media trial”. “I have come today to ensure that no police official or media personnel feels that I am avoiding the investigation,” he told reporters at his residence in Deepa Sarai.

Addressing a Presser Barq said, “Today I am not feeling well. My doctors has advised me to take rest but despite this, I am going there so that the Police administration does not feel that I am not cooperating in investifation.”

“The case filed against me is baseless, and I am here to clear my name,” he added.

However, Barq reportedly avoided to take on any question of the media as media tried to interact with him.

On November 24 last year, violence erupted in Sambhal’s Kot Garvi locality during a survey of the Mughal-era Jama Masjid. The incident led to the death of four people due to gunfire, while several others sustained injuries — With inputs from PTI
