RSS Threatens to Launch ‘Mass Agitation’ for Ram Temple

THANE — Losing patience to wait for the Supreme Court verdict on Ayodhya issue and building pressure on the government, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) on Friday hinted at a fresh “mass agitation” akin to 1992 for constructing a grand Ram temple in Ayodhya in Uttar Pradesh.

Speaking at the three-day long RSS Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal conclave held near Uttan Beach of Bhayander town, RSS General Secretary (Sarakaryavyah) Suresh ‘Bhaiyyaji’ Joshi said, “We are confident that the Ram Mandir will be built soon… We have already waited too long for it and cannot wait indefinitely… If necessary, we shall launch a ‘jan andolan’ (mass agitation),” reports IANS.

Joshi also reiterated the RSS demand that the government should consider enacting a law or promulgating an ordinance to pave the way for constructing the temple.

He has also reportedly urged the courts to take up sensitive cases like the Ram temple on priority and expressed confidence that all legal hurdles would be removed soon in this regard.

The Supreme Court order, on October 29, to list the Babri Masjid title suit in January 2019 for fixing the date of hearing has come as a big setback for the ruling BJP and Sangh Parivar who were putting pressure for verdict as early as possible.

A three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi on October 29 had directed to list the Babri Masjid title suit in the first week of January 2019 for fixing the date of hearing.

The Supreme Court’s deferment of the hearing of the case did not go well down the throat of Hindu organisations including RSS, Shiv Sena. They have been mounting pressure on the government to bring special ordinance and legislation in Parliament, and now threat of agitation, to clear the way for Ram temple construction.

The haste and frustration of the Hindutva brigade on the issue seems to be ‘justified’ as the general elections are approaching. This is clearly an attempt to polarise the voters in the name of Ram temple and exploiting religious belief of the Hindu community to strengthen BJP.

When a long period has lapsed since the Babri Masjid-Ram Janambhoomi dispute is in the court, January of next year, as given by the Apex court, is not out of reach.

The aggrieved Muslim community, on the other hand, maintains silence and have good faith on judiciary and wait for the final decision of the Supreme Court.

The main Opposition party, Congress, has also cleared its stand to go with the verdict of the Apex court on the issue.
