NEW DELHI — Two days after she accused UP cops of manhandling her, allegedly grabbing her by the neck, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra dismissed concerns about her own safety.

She hit out at UP CM Yogi Adityanath and UP Police at a press conference in New Delhi on Monday alleging the two were “complicit in wrongdoings” in the brutal crackdown against people protesting the citizenship law.

She said the UP police is “working to ensure Yogi’s badla.” She was referring to a shocking statement by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who said his government would take “revenge” on anti-CAA protestors.

On Thursday, Yogi Adityanath had said his government will take “revenge” on those involved in the violence over the amended Citizenship Act by auctioning their property to compensate for the losses.

“There is no place for violence in a democracy. In the name of opposing the CAA, the Congress, SP and Left parties have pushed the entire country to fire,” he was quoted as saying by the PTI.

Dismissing concerns about her own safety Ms Gandhi said India was “no place for enmity, violence and revenge”.

“My safety isn’t a big issue… (it) doesn’t deserve security. We are talking about safety of common man, safety of citizens. The cases we know of suggest more than 5,500 have been arrested. Many have been jailed in discreet manner… they are being thrashed. Police and administration are complicit in wrongdoing,” Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said while addressing the conference.

“Yogi-ji wears ‘bhagwa‘ (saffron). It is not his…saffron belongs to this country’s religious and spiritual spirit. It is a symbol of the Hindu religion. He should follow that religion. There is no place for enmity, revenge and violence in that religion,” she added, according to NDTV.

Referring to her visit of Bijnor, she mentioned how two innocents kids were made victim of Police brutality and an IAS aspirant, 20-year old Suleman, who had gone out to offer namaz and had nothing to do with anti-CAA protests, according to his family.

The Bijnor police chief has claimed the killing of Suleman was in self-defence.

Priyanka also expressed her anguish over indiscriminate arrests across the state as she said more than 1,100 have been arrested from across the state, according to official data – who had nothing to do with agitations.
