NEW DELHI – More than 2,000 dead bodies have been found floating on the 1,140 km long banks of river Ganga, according to a report that Congress MP Rahul Gandhi attached in a tweet on Saturday.
Through the tweet the former president of Congress Party has taken a potshot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the one who said that Mother Ganga has called him, has made it cry.
Modi is a member of Parliament from the temple town of Banaras which is situated on the banks of Ganga. During election campaign in the town in 2014, he famously said that “Mother Gnaga” has called him to serve the city. “After coming here, I felt neither BJP has sent me nor I have come here. I am here because Mother Ganga has called me. I am feeling like a small boy coming to mother’s lap. I pray to God to give me strength so that I can serve this city,” he said after culmination of a massive road show.
On Saturday, Rahul tweeted in Hindi, saying, “The one who said Ganga has called him, has made the Mother Ganga cry.”

During the last one week visuals of floating dead bodies in Ganga — from Bihar to Uttar Pradesh — have come as yet another shocker after pictures of cremation grounds overwhelmed with Covid victims made international headlines.
Over 100 bodies, suspected to be that of Covid-19 patients, were found floating in Ganga in UP’s Ghazipur May 11. This came a day after over 150 bodies were found floating in Ganga in Bihar. Locals alleged that there was no wood available for cremation and hence, many resorted to dump the bodies in the river. Television footage showed dogs and birds feeding on the bloated and decaying bodies floating in the stream.
