NEW DELHI — Zeeshan, 18 year old youth from Jiadhar village in Yamunanagar district of Haryana died after he consumed a poisonous substance, reports said, adding that the incident is a case of abbetment of suicide. A controversy emerged on the day of Eid after allegations of forcibly feeding meat to someone from the other community surfaced following which tension of communal nature gripped the village.

According to Hindi newspaper Jagran, Hindu organizations had opposed animal sacrifice on the eve of Eid in village Jaidhar . Some audios had also circlated on social media in which people from the Muslim community were asked to assemble in the village. Hindu organizations had later alleged that some people threw the meat of the animal in a bag in front of the house of the Hindu person. They also alleged that a Hindu boy kidnapped was locked up in the shop and attempts were made to force feed him raw meat.

The police registered a case naming some people. Jagran report said that Zeeshan feared that the police had put his name among the other accused. Tormented by this, he swallowed the poisonous substance on Saturday and died in the hospital.

SHO Lajja Ram, according to Jagran, said that the name of the deceased Zishan was not in any case. On the complaint of Inam, Zeeshan’s case has been registered against Amit, Billu, Joni, Happy, Manish, Aman and a dozen others of the village.

Given the situation, the police presence was beefed up as people from Muslim community demanded arrest of those “who forced Zeeshan to take his life” warning that they would not take the body from there unless their demands were met.

Special Superintendent of Police YamunaNagar also arrived on the spot and tried to calm down the agitating people. The SP assured the Muslim that no one action would be taken against anyone in the FIR registered earlier at the instance of Hindu organisation. Legal action will be taken against whoever is found guilty in the investigation, Goyal said, during the bid farewell to Zeeshan and maintain the peace.

The SP also asked the people to refrain from holding Panchayta meetings in the village unless the situation returns to normalcy. The local leaders in the community then appealed to the agitators to maintain the peace.
