NEW DELHI/JAIPUR — Muslim organizations and leaders have asked the government to take stern action against the accused in the Jaipur’s minor girl’s rape and demanded exemplary punishment for the heinous crime which may serve as a deterrent for others. They said they do not want another Asifa, the eight-year-old girl from a minority nomadic community of Jammu and Kashmir whose rape and murder had sparked outrage across India.

Jaipur police have nabbed one of the accused who allegedly involved in the abduction and brutal rape of a seven-year-old girl, according to reports. The two accused, it is reported, belong to radical Hindutva outfit Bajrang Dal.

The situation in Jaipur is under control as violence had erupted after locals staged protest demanding the arrest of culprits, claims Police.

According to the Jaipur Police, the minor girl was abducted by a motorcycle-borne man and taken to a nearby place where she was raped. She was found in a critical condition near her house on Monday night and was taken to a local hospital where the doctors referred her to JK Lone hospital. Her condition is stated to be stable.

Referring to recent hateful utterances of BJP Mahila Morcha leader Sunita Singh Gaur on the Facebook, Muslim leaders said Hindu youths are being instigated to commit such crimes.

Gaur, who was expelled from the party, posted this message in Hindi: “There is only one solution for them (Muslims). Hindu brothers should make a group of 10 and gang rape their (Muslims) mothers and sisters openly on the streets and then hang them in the middle of the bazaar for others to see.”

Speaking to Caravan Daily from Jaipur on Phone, Dr Azam Baig, Rajasthan Madrasa Board secretary, said it is unfortunate that police have been adopting lenient attitude towards the culprits, Hindutva hooligans, that has given the wrong message to them. Without taking stern action and giving exemplary punishment, you cannot stop these anti-social elements committing such heinous crimes who were brainwashed with hateful ideology.

Dr Baig is a former AMU Student Union president and runs educational institutions in his home state Rajasthan.

“The all accused belonged to Bajrang Dal who abducted the minor girl and when she refused their advances, she was tossed up, and raped, and she was also beaten up and in a very critical condition she was dumped her in a gutter, thinking she was dead,” Dr Baig said adding that “there is an urgent need to devise a strategy for countering this hate ideology which has been pushing youths into crimes such as mob lynching and rape.”

Echoing his views, All India Milli Council condemned the incident in the strongest possible terms and demanded the severest punishment to the accused. Speaking to Caravan Daily, Milli Council, secretary general, Dr Mohammad Manzoor Alam said the unfortunate incident reflects the failure of the government and administration.

While crimes against women are on the rise but the government of the day is indulged in petty and trivial issues, Dr Alam said.  Demanding the arrest of the accused at the earliest, he said the Rajasthan government should set up fast-track court for this case.
