NEW DELHI – All Indians, especially the Muslim community, are facing mounting challenges and to surmount them unity is required, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) chief Syed Sadatullah Husaini has said.
In a recent video address, Husaini highlighted the challenges threatening the secular fabric of the country. As the elections draw near, he emphasised, the audacity of sectarian forces and their impact on democratic institutions has escalated.
He stressed that the invasive nature of the fascist forces is spreading hatred and communalism and that they have the ability to destabilise not only the Muslim community but the entire nation. He exhorted Muslims to face these challenges with resolve, knowledge, and steadfastness.
“The Ummah has been experiencing trials and tribulations since time immemorial. Whether it was the first rebellion in 1857, the country’s war of independence, or earlier periods, history has proved that no powers have ever succeeded in bringing down and erasing the community, the JIH chief said.
Moreover, he said, “challenges and difficulties cannot dishearten us. In fact, according to the Qur’an, true faith is demonstrated when our belief and self-confidence strengthen even further after facing adversity,” he said.
He cited the verse of the Qur’ān (33:22): ‘When the Believers saw the Confederate forces, they said: This is what Allah and His Messenger had promised us, and Allah and His Messenger told us what was true. And it only added to their faith and their zeal in obedience.’ This verse, he said, strengthens a believer’s faith, boosting his dedication and submission.
While recognising and validating the genuine emotions of sadness, anger, and unrest prevalent within the community, the Jamaat chief urged the community to derive resilience from their faith and the teachings of the Qur’an. He stressed the imperative of action over despair, advocating for a proactive stance in addressing the multifaceted challenges at hand.
Addressing potential solutions, Husaini outlined a comprehensive strategy encompassing both external and internal dimensions. Externally, he urged efforts to counter divisive narratives and foster societal change, while internally, he called for addressing and rectifying community weaknesses such as a lack of education, leadership, and unity.
The Jamaat chief proposed several practical steps for Muslims, including initiatives to improve inter-community relations, uplift the socio-economic status of Muslims, advocate for justice, and leverage social media for constructive engagement. He also highlighted the crucial role of political participation, urging Muslims to actively engage in the electoral process to influence positive change.
Encouraging Muslims to transform their grief and anger into positive energy, Husaini urged their earnest support to those dedicated to community improvement. Simultaneously, he emphasised unwavering commitment to progress. He rallied for a collective endeavour to usher in a fresh era of resilience and empowerment, undeterred by the obstacles presented by divisive influences.
