NEW DELHI: In an intervention in the ongoing debate on triple talaq, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today called upon reformers from the Muslim community to “come forward to protect daughters from the ill-effects” of the practice.
Modi also asked that the practice which has been opposed by Muslim women “should not be seen from a political prism”. The comments come just days before a constitution bench of the Supreme Court begins hearing to decide if the practice is constitutionally valid.
Meanwhile continuing the Hindutva obsession with the ‘triple talaq’ issue, Uttar Pradesh minister Maurya said Muslim men married and divorced to satisfy their lust.
