Based on the violent nature of the assault in the Trilokpuri area, the police have registered charges. including sexual assault and molestation
NEW DELHI — A 70-year-old homeless Muslim woman with intellectual disabilities was brutally assaulted in Delhi’s Trilokpuri area in the early hours of Friday, June 12. A Hindu youth, Vishnu alias Vicky, has been arrested based on the CCTV footage of the area.
The attack came to light around 6:30 am when a rickshaw puller found the badly injured woman near Block 27 of the locality and alerted the police. Officers from the Mayur Vihar police station reached the spot to find she had already been taken to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital.
Medical Findings Confirm Brutal Assault
Doctors at the hospital documented severe physical trauma. The victim, who lived on the streets and was known locally, had swelling and superficial injury marks on her face. Based on the violent nature of the assault, police registered charges under Section 110 for attempt to commit culpable homicide along with relevant sexual assault and molestation charges. Initial medical reports did not confirm rape.
CCTV Footage Reveals Attack
CCTV from the area shows the accused striking the defenceless elderly woman with a brick and then attempting to sexually assault her. The footage sparked outrage among locals.
Describing the victim’s condition, a local said: “The clothes on their bodies weren’t even their own; they had borrowed them. Her condition was so critical that she was drenched in blood; she was completely exposed.”
Religious Bias Alleged
The incident triggered anger in Trilokpuri, with residents identifying the victim as Muslim and raising concerns about unequal treatment.
One resident told the media: “If it had been a Hindu, there would have been a whole army of police, a whole lot of police vehicles parked here.” Another said: “The country belongs to the Hindus; it doesn’t belong to us.”
Speaking directly on the victim’s identity, a woman from the area stated: “Yes, she was a Muslim woman; justice is dispensed based on religion.”
Residents demanded strict, lawful punishment. Referencing past instances of retributive justice, one local said: “Like what happened in Khoda (Ghaziabad), killing in return for killing; this should not happen to him when he is stopped.”
When Delhi Police arrested 28-year-old Vishnu, he was found to be heavily intoxicated. Crime and Forensic Science Laboratory teams collected evidence from the scene.
Doctors report the victim is conscious but, due to her intellectual disability, is currently unable to give a clear statement. Investigation is ongoing.
