PUNE – A delegation of political activists in Maharashtra’s Pune district on Tuesday met with the Police Commissioner seeking action against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs, Nitesh Rane and Mahesh Kisanrao, for giving inflammatory speeches against a mosque and Muslims.

Addressing an event on Monday, Rane threatened to resort violence against Muslims and referred to the demolition of the Babri mosque.

Zubair Memon, a Muslim activist who was part of the delegation, told Clarion India that a delegation of around 150 people from the Muslim and Dalit communities, under the banner of mosque trust, have met the police Commissioner and submitted an application demanding legal action against Rane.

“The Commissioner told us to wait for a few days. They will definitely take action against him and invoke valid IPC sections. As the BJP is in power in the State and both these MLAs are from the BJP, there is a little hope that action will be taken against them, he asserted.

There is an order by the Supreme Court that the police should take action suo moto against the hate speeches. If the action is not taken against them, they will go to the High Court, said Memon.

Addressing the gathering, Rane, son of Union minister Narayan Rane, said “It won’t take us much time, when we start pulling out them (Muslims) then our police brothers will also support us. Ask us how much the police helped us after the 1993 riots. We have the experience, don’t have fun in front of us, you don’t know our history, go and see Ram Mandir has started there, you used to have fun like this in the name of Babri Masjid too”.

He further said “How many police personnel will there be in this premises, maybe 100, and how many are we. If we enter inside (the mosque), we will get everyone out with swollen faces. How much time will it take us?”.

According to Memon, Rane referred to Mughal-era mosque and dargah, which is called as “Choti Dargah”. Hindutva groups claimed that the mosque and dargah is a temple. They even went to the court in this regard. They also made provocative remarks and incite mob in this regard.

In his speech, Rane also said “India is a Hindurashtra, 80% people living here are Hindus, and if 80-90% people living here are Hindus, then why do you pamper Jihadis”.

Rane also said that there is no need to get worried as no action will be taken against them under the Bhagwa-dhari people.

Similarly, Kisanrao also delivered hate speeches, threatening the repeat of Babri demolition and labeled Muslim localities as “Terrorist hubs” as audience gave huge round of applause and whistling.

“They want to cause riots between Hindu and Muslim and increase the polarization. This will benefit them in the elections. This is what they want to achieve through such hate speeches,” said Memon.
