LUKNOW – Rich tributes were paid to Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, India’s first education minister, on his 66th death anniversary at a memorial program here on Thursday.

The event, organised by Maulana Azad Memorial Academy at Eram Girls’ Degree College, served as a poignant tribute to Azad’s remarkable contributions to education and his unwavering commitment to fostering intellectual growth and societal progress.

A highlight of the commemoration was the unveiling of a compilation of letters penned by Maulana Azad, shedding light on his profound insights, activism, and leadership within the Indian National Congress. The launch of this compilation added a poignant touch to the proceedings, offering attendees a deeper understanding of Azad’s multifaceted persona.

Dr. Abdul Quddoos Hashmi, general secretary of the Maulana Azad Memorial Academy, eloquently addressed the audience, emphasising the enduring relevance of Azad’s teachings and principles in today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape. His words resonated deeply with those in attendance, underscoring the profound impact Azad continues to exert on the nation’s educational ethos.

The memorial program drew the participation of esteemed academicians, scholars, former bureaucrats, and law enforcement officers, all united in their admiration and reverence for Azad’s visionary leadership. Among the distinguished guests were Shailendra Sagar, former Director General of Police (UP Police); Shariq Alvi, President of the Maulana Azad Academy; and Khwaja Kaifi Yunus, Director of the Eram Educational Society.

Throughout the program, speakers paid heartfelt tributes to Azad’s pivotal role in shaping the Indian education system. His visionary initiatives, including the establishment of institutions such as the Sahitya Akademi, Lalit Kala Academy, and IIT, were lauded as transformative milestones in India’s educational journey.
