RAMPUR – After visiting him in the jail, brother-in-law of Samajwadi leader Azam Khan said that Khan is upset with Samajwadi Party top leadership for failing to stand with him and feels that he is being targeted for being a Muslim.

Speaking to media after meeting Khan in Rampur prison, his brother-in-law Zameer Ahmed Khan said “Azam feels that his party failed to stand with him when he was being booked under multiple cases by the Yogi Adityanath government. He is upset and does not want to meet senior SP leaders who are coming to meet him in jail. He strongly feels that the government is targeting him for being a Muslim.”

“The Rampur SP was also transferred by the government for honestly dealing with cases against Azam. He and his family members are not being treated properly by the jail authorities” said his brother-in-law.

SP national president Akhilesh Yadav met Azam Khan, his family members in Sitapur jail on Thursday last week. The former UP CM accused the BJP of targeting Azam as part of a planned ‘political conspiracy’.

Azam Khan along with his wife Tanzeen Fatima and son Abdullah surrendered in Rampur court on Wednesday last week following a non-bailable warrant that was issued against them in a case of forgery related to dual birth certificates of Abdullah Azam. The Rampur court sent the Khan family to judicial custody till March 2.

Azam Khan, his wife and son were later shifted to Sitapur jail on February 27 after the SP workers reportedly planned a protest outside Rampur jail against the court’s decision them to jail.
