Indian Embassy in Kuwait Suspends Saudi Transit Visa Service Ahead of Haj

Travellers advised to check airline rules, as new restrictions affect Indians planning routes via Saudi Arabia

NEW DELHI — The Embassy of India in Kuwait has suspended the transit visa service for Saudi Arabia with immediate effect, citing preparations for Haj 2026.

The decision is expected to affect Indian citizens planning to travel through Saudi Arabia as part of their international journey. Earlier, transit visa requests were processed through the embassy, but this facility has now been stopped until further notice.

In a statement shared on social media, the embassy said that it will no longer accept or process applications for Saudi transit entry permission under the existing system.

The move comes at a time when Saudi authorities are preparing for Haj 2026, one of the largest annual religious gatherings in the world. Millions of pilgrims are expected to travel to the holy cities, leading to stricter entry regulations and administrative controls.

This year’s Haj rituals are likely to take place between May 25 and May 29, though final dates will depend on the sighting of the moon. The Day of Arafat is expected around May 26, followed by Eid al-Adha around May 27.

The embassy has advised Indian travellers to directly contact their respective airlines for updated information. Passengers have been told to check all details related to entry permissions, transit procedures and other formalities before starting their journey.

An official from the embassy said, “Travellers must stay informed and coordinate with airlines to avoid inconvenience. Rules may change during the Haj period, so proper preparation is necessary.”

Officials also made it clear that no new requests under this category will be entertained until further notice.

Every year, Saudi Arabia implements strict travel and entry measures during Haj to manage the large number of pilgrims and maintain safety arrangements. The latest decision is seen as part of these wider efforts.

Travellers are being urged to plan carefully and stay updated to avoid disruptions during this busy travel period.
