NEW DELHI – Bangladesh on Friday criticised India for alleged “double standards” in protecting minority communities, citing incidents of violence against Muslims in India. Law Adviser Asif Nazrul of Bangladesh’s interim government accused India of showing no remorse for these actions while raising concerns about minorities in Bangladesh.
Bangladesh also accused the Indian media of conducting an “industrial scale misinformation campaign” against Dhaka, media reports reaching here said.
Asif Nazrul highlighted a survey suggesting better minority security under the current interim government compared to the previous Awami League regime. Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus’s office urged Bangladeshi journalists to counter Indian media’s “misinformation campaigns” with factual narratives.
Amid a row over the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmoy Krishna Das on sedition charges, Bangladesh interim government’s Law Affairs Adviser in a Facebook post said India’s unwarranted concern for Bangladesh continues.
“In India, numerous incidents of brutality on the minority Muslim community are going on. But they don’t have any remorse or embarrassment (over those incidents). This double standard of India is condemnable and objectionable,” Asif Nazrul wrote.
Citing a survey by Voice of America Bangla, Nazrul wrote: “The majority of Bangladeshis (64.1%) believe that the interim government has been able to provide better security to the country’s minority communities compared to the previous Awami League government.”
According to media reports, Muhammad Yunus’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said, “We must tell our stories our way else they (Indian media) will set our narrative according to their liking.”
