NEW DELHI — Vijay Parikh, resident of Ahmednagar in Maharashtra, was among thousands of people who generously contributed to the PM Cares Fund set up by the Modi government in March last year as a supportive measure to fight the challenge of the coronavirus pandemic.

Parekh donated Rs 2.5 lakh to the fund that accumulated billions of rupees, a part of which was claimed to be used to bolster the country’s healthcare system including procuring ventilators.

However, when coronavirus attacked Parikh’s mother, she could not find a hospital bed.

In a tweet that has gone viral on social media Parikh says: Donation of 251k couldn’t ensure bed for my dying mother. Please advise how much more should I donate to reserve berths for the 3rd wave so I don’t lose any more members..”

He also shared the receipt of a donation he had made to the fund.

According to Lokmat-English, “If you look at Parikh’s previous tweets it is clear that he is a BJP supporter.”

The second wave of the pandemic has hit India hard, consuming thousands daily. The crisis has exposed the claims and preparedness of the Central government with critics and even his general run of supporters angry as they are losing their loved ones due to lack of hospital care.
