NEW DELHI – Two Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lawmakers and firebrand Hindutva faces, T. Raja Singh from Hyderabad in Telangana, and Nitesh Rane from Kankavli in Sindhudurg district of Maharashtra, have been booked for making genocidal speeches against Muslims at a recent rally in Solapur district.
The rally was organised by Sakal Hindu Samaj – an umbrella body of Hindutva organisations – at the weekend.
The police in Maharashtra filed a case against the two lawmakers and several office-bearers of the Sakal Hindu Samaj for making derogatory remarks against minorities, especially Muslims, at the Hindu Jan Aakrosh rally.
The police filed the case under provisions of the Indian Penal Code dealing with creating enmity between two different groups and acts intended to outrage religious feelings.
“We have booked Rane, Raja Singh, Sakal Hindu Samaj office-bearer Sudhakar Mahadev Bahirwade, and eight to 10 others under various sections of the Indian Penal Code,” media reports quoted an unidentified police official as saying.
Raja Singh, who is accused in several hate speech cases in Telangana, made several derogatory and genocidal statements at the weekend event.
Raja instigated the crowd to assault ‘love jihadis’ and boycott products with halal certification. He also called for demolition of mosques and suggested that the Maharashtra government provide bulldozers to MLAs and MPs to be used like Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath does.
“The way Yogi Adityanath runs bulldozers on love jihadis, the Maharashtra government should also buy and keep some bulldozers. They must gift them to MLAs and MPs and tell them to use them, we’ll see who will do ‘gau hatya’ (cow slaughter) then,” the Telangana MLA said.
Hindutva Watch, a research initiative which monitors reports of attacks on members of religious minorities in the country, shared Singh’s video on its X (formerly Twitter) handle.
The video shows Singh appealing to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to take strict action against ‘Love Jihad’ and cow slaughterers. “If the state government fails, we will teach them a lesson. We will make sure to pluck these Jihadis’ eyes and play with them,” Singh said.
“Is rape not happening to our sisters and daughters today in the name of Love Jihad? They are trapped and then made a machine for producing children,” he said.
