NEW DELHI – An elderly Muslim man, who is an Imam at a Mosque, was brutally assaulted by some men when he was going from Rajasthan’s Gangapur city to Gujarat’s Ankleshwar for collecting donations for his madrassa.
The attackers accused him of molestation, however, the railway authorities haven’t confirmed the allegations.
Meanwhile, the family members of the victim rejected the allegations of any molestation. He was beaten up by levelling false allegation when he was reciting Quran at the train.
Speaking to Maktoob Hindi, his family member said that the elderly man is an imam at a mosque and runs a madrasa in Rajasthan’s Gangapur city. He was going to Gujarat for collecting donations for his madrassa when the incident took place.
“Some people boarded the train at the same station where the elderly man had boarded. They were talking offensive things about Muslims. Suddenly, a woman called the elderly man “Pakistani”. As the matter escalated, the TC asked him to come near the gate where two men slapped and the woman slapped him,” said his family member.
“They levelled false allegation and made a video of assault. His family member came to know about the incident after the video went viral,” added the family member.
In the video, the Maktoob Hindi quoted the family member without mentioning the name of the family member.
The one minute and four second video shows that a woman accusing the elderly man of allegedly molesting her, while he is rejecting the claim. Suddenly, a man started thrashing him and slapped several times on his face. Then, the man punched on his body several times as the imam tried to protect himself.
“I’m an elderly man. Please forgive me,” pleaded the imam. As the imam begged for mercy, the attacker continued hitting him. He also removed his skull-cap from his head. Then, another man joined in hitting the imam and slapped him several times.
In the video, the woman can be seen using abusive language while inciting the men to hit in his private part.
Social media users are calling for the action against the culprits who attacked the elderly man.
The incident reminisces of another incident from Maharashtra where an elderly Muslim man was brutally thrashed by a group of people accusing him of carrying the buffalo meat in his bag.
In September last year, 72-year-old Ashraf Ali Sayyed Hussain, who was travelling from Jalgaon to Kalyan in a train, was assaulted by a group of unruly men, all in their 20s and en route Mumbai for a police exam, accused Hussain of possessing “cow meat.”
