NEW DLEHI – The police have arrested two persons accused of unprovoked attack on two Muslim men. The duo not only assaulted the unassuming victims but also abused them with religious slurs like “Pakistani” and “Mulle” while forcing them to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’.
The incident occurred in the Modinagar area of the Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh. In the video of the incident that has gone viral on social media one of the accused can be seen thrashing a bearded man while constantly abusing him in the middle of the road even as passersby are urging him to let him off.

The victim, eventually, let off by his tormentors, but not before beating him black and blue. Once done with the first victim, the same attacker went on to thrash another Muslim man.

One of the victims, imam at a mosque, narrated the incident. He said when he was taking an evening walk some people came to him riding on a Scotty and straight away started abusing him without any reason. They caught hold of him and started forcing him to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and ‘Jai Shri Ram’ while constantly calling with the slur “Mulle”.

When the imam pleaded with the assailants to leave him, they started thrashing him. Slapping him relentlessly all the time they threatened to kill him. However, he was lucky enough to give them a slip and went into hiding. He called his acquaintances with whose help he went to a nearby police station and filed a complaint against the culprits.

On Saturday, the police arrested both the accused assailants, identified as Sachin Nehra and Sonu Nehra.

Speaking about the incident, Iraj Raja, superintendent of police (rural), said “On September 1 around 5 pm, Avzad (25), a resident of Sanjaypuri area, and Sadakat (40) of Garhi-Gadana village, were walking in the area when the accused, Sachin Nehra and Sonu Nehra, both residents of Modinagar, stopped them. In no time, the accused started abusing Avzad and Sadakat and later thrashed them too.”
An FIR was filed under IPC sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 and 506 (criminal intimidation), etc.

Raja claimed that the accused were drunk at the time of the incident. “The accused harassed the two men and made communal comments about them. We received a complaint from Sadakat and registered a case at the Modinagar police station,” he said.

Raja further said, “They were produced before the court and sent to judicial custody. A video of the incident is also making rounds on social media. The accused say, ‘Go back to Pakistan’, and similar things. The audio isn’t clear, but the victims have revealed the same in their complaint”.
