New Delhi – The administration removed the idol which was installed by some miscreants near a Muslim shrine in Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh on Monday.
The idol was installed in the temple present in the premises of the old police station of Neemuch City. All this was done amidst tight security.
However, Hindu organisations took to the streets on Wednesday evening in protest against the move reciting Hanuman Chalisa in unison at the city’s fountain square.
Meanwhile, the temple premises at Neemuch City Police Station has been put under lock after the idol was placed.
Violence and arson was witnessed in many parts of the city on Monday over the installation of the statue on the grounds of Purani Kachari, located near a dargah. About a dozen people have been detained in this connection so far.
The Hindu organisations, including Vishwa Hindu Parishad, are demanding the restoration of the idol at the Muslim shrine from where the administration removed it. Anoop Singh Jhala, a local VHP leader alleged that the administration has done this under “pressure from one community”.
“The administration has removed the statue to satisfy a section. We are demanding the re-prana Pratishtha of the Lord. That’s why we organised a mass Hanuman Chalisa and Hanuman ji’s Maha Aarti at Favwara Chowk,” Jhala was quoted in the media as he warned that if the idol was not restored at the same place they would launch an agitation.
The police, however, say there was no idol earlier at the place where it was installed. It was kept there for two days.
Neemuch District Collector Mayank Agarwal, while talking to reporters about the dispute, referred to the existing government documents of 1936 and said that the Laxminarayan temple and two dargahs near the court are very old.
