MORE THAN 450,000 FIREWORKS SET OFF IN THE WORLD’S BIGGEST NEW YEAR PARTY
DUBAI, Jan 1, 2014 — Dubai led the world in welcoming the New Year with a bang and a breathtaking fireworks display that is set to go down in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest in history.
On the stroke of midnight Dubai Downtown erupted in a blaze of colors as the iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, was lit up in a stunning firework display.
Approximately 10 minutes later the Burj Al Arab took over the celebrations with a show of approximately 5 minutes long.
Then, at around 12.20am, after an unexpected delay of around 20 minutes the hugely anticipated Palm Jumeirah and World Island show began.
A staggering 450,000 fireworks went off off along the trunk and fronds of the Palm Island and around the Word Island in Dubai.
