AYODHYA — A prominent figure in the Babri Masjid title case, Iqbal Ansari, has distanced himself from All India Majlis Ittehad Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi. He said he and his community “do not know” Owaisi and have chosen not to discuss anything about him.
Iqbal’s father, Hashim Ansari, the oldest litigant in the land dispute case, died at the age of 95 in 2016, after which Iqbal started pursuing the case in court.
Iqbal Ansari’s response came amid a series of Owaisi statements on the inauguration of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Owaisi has been vocal about his concerns regarding the government’s alleged attempts to depopulate mosques and his call to protect these religious institutions.
During a recent public meeting, Owaisi remarked, “Nature is telling us that you have lost a mosque due to your mistake,” cautioning that mosques are being eyed greedily by those in power. He emphasised the importance of keeping mosques and madrasas occupied.
Ansari, despite his historical involvement in the Babri Masjid issue, declared his lack of familiarity with Owaisi. “We do not know him, and we do not talk about him,” Ansari asserted.
Ansari has received an invitation to attend the Ram Temple ceremony scheduled for January 22.
In an interaction with media, Ansari’s daughter, Shama Parveen, confirmed the receipt of the invitation letter. The invitation was delivered at Ansari’s residence in Kotia Panji Tola near Rampath, marking a notable development in the complex narrative surrounding Ayodhya and its religious ceremonies.
