DEOBAND – The city police have arrested a student over a social media post hinting at a potential second Pulwama attack.
Muhammad Talha Mazhar’s post, which went viral on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), claimed: “There will be another Pulwama very soon inshallah.”
Talha Mazhar, hailing from Sarai Kela in Jharkhand’s Jamshedpur, is pursuing religious education in Deoband.
He was arrested from a seminary Tuesday night following the circulation of his alarming post. Local authorities including Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and other intelligence agencies have initiated an investigation into the matter.
Inspector-in-charge of Deoband Police, Province Singh, stated that the detained student is currently under interrogation. The authorities are also probing whether the threatening post originated from the student himself or if there was an involvement of external entities.
Saharanpur Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dr. Vipin Tadane provided an update on the ongoing investigation. So far, he said, nothing significant has been uncovered during the interrogation of the detained youth. The police are also scrutinising the student’s social media activities and contacts to gather more information.
Despite the tweet being retweeted, Dr. Vipin Tadane emphasised that the investigation is still in its early stages, and authorities are working diligently to determine the credibility and source of the threat. The incident has raised concerns among law enforcement agencies, necessitating a comprehensive examination of the social media post and the circumstances surrounding it.
