New Delhi – Syed Qasim Rasool Ilyas, a well-known community leader, has been named by the Delhi police in the charge-sheet filed in connection with anti-Muslim riots that rocked the north-eastern part of the capital in February.
In the charge-sheet, he has been accused of making a provocative speech at one of the rallies preceding the riots.
A number of social and political activists have also been named in the same charge-sheet based on the confessions of one of the accused in the police net. Some of the prominent persons named in the charge-sheet are: Kavita Krishnan, United Against hate’s Nadeem Khan, Khalid Saifi and Naved Chaudhary; Kavalpreet Kaur, Shreya and Kaveri Rama Murti of AISA; Devangana kalita and Proma Roy of Pinjra Tod; and Safoora, Meeran Haider and SaifulIslam of Jamia Coordination Committee.
Some of the people named in the charge-sheet are already in police custody.
Ilyas is an office-bearer of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board. When contacted by Clarion India, he said would decide his future course of action after talking to his lawyer.
