NEW DELHI — The Delhi committee of CPI (ML) New Democracy, a Left-leaning forum, held a protest rally at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi against what they called as bulldozer raj being imposed on the states under the BJP rule on Wednesday.

Crushing dissent by terrorising people through the use of bulldozer is not new to the BJP. But of late the trend has been perpetuated ever since the Central government, along with the governments of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh (UP), resorted to it from time to time. Especially the UP government has earned notoriety in the illegal act with state Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath proudly donning the tag of Buldozer Baba, a symbol of masculine power.

On the occasion, the CPI (ML) New Democracy has also condemned framing up of anti-CAA activists of Prayagraj (Allahabad) on trumped-up charges linking them to violence in the city during the protests against intemperate remarks against Prophet Muhammad by former BJP spokespersons. It’s nothing but vindictive politics the Yogi government is indulging in.

Among the 69 people who have been implicated thus is Comrade Ashish Mital, All India General Secretary of AIKMS, who has been charged under 31 sections in a fake criminal case. Besides, there are 5,000 unnamed accused who have fallen prey to the administration’s vendetta.

The charges against Com Ashish are absurd to say the least. On June 10 when the violence took place, he was present on the premises of the court of the Additional District Judge (ADJ) 2, at least 8 km away from the site of violence, throughout the day. Com Ashish is being punished for leading the AIKMS protest in the recent victorious sit-in by India’s farmers at Delhi’s borders against the three farm laws.
The party came to the conclusion that the BJP’s agenda is to intimidate its opponents, including Muslims, by raising communally sensitive issues and openly targeting their lives and livelihoods through government machinery. The scene of bulldozers’ crushed pushcarts in Delhi’s Jahangirpuri was beamed across the country on TV. What followed was a general crackdown on small retail businesses across Delhi in the name of clearing ‘illegal’ structures.

Even licensed kiosks, small shops, and street vendors operating for decades were not spared. The motive was to systematically drive members of a particular community away from their livelihood to make way for big and corporate retailers.

The party called on the Central government to withdraw all false cases against anti-CAA activists in Prayagraj, especially against Gen Sec AIKMS Ashish Mital.

Those who spoke on the occasion included Com Mrigank from Delhi Com Sucheta Dey from CPIML Liberation Delhi Committee, Com Shamshul Islam from Nishant Natya Manch, Dr Vikas Bajpai from Janhastakshep, Dr Animesh Das President IFTU Delhi, Com Poonam Kaushik general secretary PMS, Com Rajeeve on behalf of PDSU and NBS, and ArjunPrasad from Delhi People’s Front.
