The Congress president also promised to take action against those responsible for the police firing on farmers last year in Mandsaur.

MANDSAUR — Officially launching the campaign ahead of the Madhya Pradesh polls, Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday vowed that the farmers’ loan would be waived within 10 days if his party comes to power in Madhya Pradesh later this year.
“Here Kamal Nath (MP Congress President) and Jyotiraditya Scindia (the State poll campaign committee chairman) are sitting. I want to assure you that within 10-days of coming to power in Madhya Pradesh, the government will waive (farmers’) loan,” Rahul said.
He was addressing a rally at Pipliya Mandi in Mandsaur district to commemorate the first anniversary of police firing on farmers during an agitation in which six farmers were killed.
The Congress president also promised that a government of his party in the state would take action against those responsible for the police firing on farmers on this day last year.
Rahul Gandhi also lambasted the BJP state government of Shivraj Chauhan and the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, saying they ignore the plight of the state’s and the country’s farmers, even as they kowtow to and give concessions to rich industrialists.
“The truth is PM Modi and BJP are not concerned about farmers. Helping their rich industrialist friends is their only priority,” said Rahul.
“India’s richest people’s loans were waived, but when I requested him (Modi) to waive farmers’ loans, his answer was silence. I promise you that the day a Congress government comes to Madhya Pradesh…within 10 days of that – we will waive all your loans. Not 11 days, 10 days. This isn’t an empty promise, it’s a firm one, we don’t make hollow promises,” said the Congress president.
Congress president also met the family members of those killed during the farmers’ stir last year in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur and assurd them justice within 10 days if Congress voted to power in the assembly elections due this year.
Assembly polls are due in Madhya Pradesh in November this year along with Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.
Earlier, Rahul Gandhi has also claimed that within ten days of the Congress party coming to power in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, all farmer loans nationwide will be waived off.
While addressing a public rally in Kalgi in the run up to Karnataka Assembly Elections, Mr Gandhi said, “When the Congress comes to power in 2019, we will waive the loans of farmers within 10 days of coming to power. We have also planned food processing plants for the benefit and growth of Karnataka farmers.”
