HYDERABAD– In a significant development, Congress leader Syed Azmatullah Hussaini has been chosen as the new Chairman of the Telangana Waqf Board. His appointment comes after being nominated as a member of the board by the new Congress government just last week.
At a meeting convened by the Board on Friday, Hussaini’s nomination received unanimous support from all members, including newly appointed members Ayesha Masarrat Khanam and others. The proposal for Hussaini’s chairmanship was put forward by Malik Motasim Khan and garnered widespread backing.
Hussaini, a prominent figure within the youth wing of the Congress, expressed gratitude to the almighty for bestowing upon him this responsibility. He pledged to diligently fulfill his duties and vowed to make decisions regarding the protection and development of Wakf properties only after thorough consultation with all stakeholders.
Scheduled to assume office on February 21, Hussaini conveyed his appreciation to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy during a meeting following his election.
Hussaini’s political journey, rooted in the National Students Union of India (NSUI), saw him ascend through various leadership roles within the Congress party, both in united Andhra Pradesh and subsequently in Telangana. His nomination to the Waqf Board stands as a testament to his longstanding commitment to public service and his leadership within the party.
Hussaini’s tenure as Chairman will fill the remainder of the term vacated by Masiullah Khan, who was relieved of his duties after the Congress party assumed power. The new government also appointed Ayesha Masarrat Khanam, a government officer, as a member of the Waqf Board.
With Hussaini’s leadership, the Telangana Waqf Board looks forward to fostering development and safeguarding the interests of the community under his guidance.
