HYDERABAD — Close on the heels of the mammoth Million March, this capital city of Telangana state in southern India witnessed another huge rally of people against the CAA and NRC, on Friday.

The rally styled as Tiranga Rally, named after the National Flag, was held in the historic Eidgah, sponsored by various organisations and headed by the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) of Asaduddin Owaisi, Member of Parliament.

The rally began after Friday prayers and saw a turnout of tens of thousands amid a fluttering sea of tricolor flags. Business establishments and markets around the ground remained closed in the afternoon as everyone wanted to be a part of the rally.

The largest flag in the rally was of 200-feet high. The enthusiastic protesters said they have made the flag in a demonstration of their love for their country.

Asaduddin Owaisi who led the rally said in his address of the protesters that there was no need for anyone to show documents such Aadhaar cards to anybody. “We demand that the CAA be taken back. We demand that the NPR and the NRC be scrapped completely,” Owaisi said.

Directing his ire at Prime Minster Narendra Modi, Owaisi said the citizens of the state and the city, in unison, had given the PM a clear message that they rejected the CAA, the NRC and the NPR.

The speakers included Maulana Jafar Pasha, Syed Akbar Nizamuddin Hussaini and Mufti Mahmood Zubair who reiterated the demand for revocation of the controversial Act.
